Call for Abstracts

The call for abstracts is now closed.

 

All faculty, staff, and trainees are invited to submit an abstract for a poster presentation for the NeuroEngineering Symposium, to be held October 2, 2015 in the Bioscience Research Collaborative.  Trainees are also to be considered for 2 oral presentation slots during the proceedings.  Abstracts should focus on area(s) of NeuroEngineering (neuroscience, tissue engineering, material science, nanoengineering, imaging, electronic systems, signal processing, machine learning, etc) and include possible avenues for future collaborations.

How to Submit
Please send your abstract, in the format indicated below, to Melissa Thompson (mst3@rice.edu), no later than September 14, 2015.  Abstracts will be published EXACTLY as received; please be sure to follow the formatting instructions.  In your submission email, please indicate:
1.   your position title (graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, resident, faculty, etc).
2.   type of presentation you seek if a trainee (oral, poster, or either)

Instructions for Preparing Abstracts

  1. The allotted space for an abstract is 1 page (8.5 x 11) with 1” margins.
  2. Please write your abstract following the guidelines shown in the sample abstract below. When you complete the abstract, save it in the name of the presenting author. (ie. Smith_John_abstract.doc)
  3. Only abstracts SUBMITTED IN WORD will be accepted.
  4. Confirmation of receipt of abstract will be sent to the presenting author by e-mail.

SAMPLE ABSTRACT

Capitalize the First Letter of Each Word of the Title and Flush to the Left Margin, in Bold Letters. Start the Author’s Name after Leaving one Line Space. Font size 12, Times New Roman.

First AA1, Second AB1, Last AC2 (Authors’ names should start with their surnames, each followed by the first initial and middle initial. The presenting author’s name should be underlined.)
1.  Department Name, Institution Name, City, State
2.  Department Name, Institution Name, City, State

Corresponding author:  Corresponding Author’s Name, Department, Affiliation, Institution, City, State, Email address, and any other contact information.

The body of abstract should contain a statement of the study’s objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. The text should be in English, typed with single line spacing, using 11pt. Times, Times New Roman, or Symbol font for a, b, m, etc.

Paragraph: Indent the text, setting a tab to a 5 character indent at the beginning of each new paragraph, except the first. Do not leave any space between paragraphs. Black and white tables, illustrations and photographs may be digitized and pasted within the space. Underlining/Italic type may be used to stress words or phrases.

Funding sources should be acknowledged at the end of the abstract.
